What’s Your Employability Quotient?

The Indian education system attaches enormous value to a degree, a mindset that we have explored in our blog Are TVET and Apprenticeships a Second Class Education or a Game Changer? Something is surely amiss if then only an abysmal 20% of graduates are employable. This has left the youth wondering what is ‘wrong’ with them as technically and conceptually they have the right skills. Given that a typical Indian student goes through a rigorous coaching process of two or more years to pass an entrance exam but with little thought to how to excel at an interview or what will set them apart from someone else who is equally technically qualified, the value of soft skills and effective communication is severely underlooked.  Moreover, how does a young person gear up to become not just a skilled employee but a good cultural fit within an organization? Can an apprenticeship or internship be a way to fix this problem?
