A huge change is expected in all apprenticeships in India with the amendment to the Apprenticeship Act by the Skill Development ministry. The ministry is yet to seek cabinet approval for the proposed modifications. The changes include opening up apprenticeship training to college kids and permitting the overseas supply of apprentices. Many measures will be taken to ensure the security and welfare of the latter in order to keep all with existing labour laws.

The ministry hopes to achieve a larger apprentice use pan India and a broader scope of sectors that make use of apprentices. The apprenticeship act of 1961 is would be facing some major changes if the amendments get approved during the monsoon session of the parliament. Read more.
