Junior Skills 2021 felicitates winners, gold medalists will attend World Skills

The National Skill Development Corporation or the NSDC has launched the Junior Skills Championship 2021, a skill competition for school students held in collaboration with the CBSE. The event saw 60 winners felicitated by Atul Kumar Tiwari, Additional Secretary in MSDE. “National Education Policy that also aims to integrate vocational education in school curricula will find able support in events like Junior Skills that will aspire students to hone skills of their choice and participate in nation-building,” he said. The competition saw over 2 lac students in participations from grade 6 to 12 in fields like Photography, Graphic Design, Painting and Decorating, Fashion Technology, Visual Merchandising, Mobile Robotics, Web Technologies, Solar Energy, IT software solution, and Innovative Business Ideas. Winners who bagged the gold medals will also get to attend the World Skills Competition in Shanghai being held later this year in October. Read more.

Four transgender persons hit by pandemic bag jobs in Noida

Maya Bedi, Arohi Verma, Shagun, and Samiksha are transgender women who have been given vocational skills training by a Noida-based NGO, ‘Basera Samajik Sansthan’, in order to prepare them for private firm jobs. With a monthly salary of INR 15,000 at a private diagnostic lab, these four transgender women will be able to lead dignified lives with more respect as compared to their previous lives. ‘Basera Samajik Sansthan’, working towards the upliftment of the transgender community in the Delhi-NCR area, organised a recruitment drive where these transgender women were hired. Ramkali, also a transgender woman running the NGO, expressed the challenges faced when approaching and convincing private firms in hiring transgender people. Read more.
