India’s falling short of its expectations on placement

India’s skills mission is under the flagship of Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY). A decline in both training and placement is being noticed in the past six years for India’s skills mission. Of the expected 7.62 million, Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana was able to train 6.59 million people. This r target came under the short-term training category according to data presented in Parliament. This category of people showed the only placement of 2.32 million between 2015 and 10 July 2021. This means that, of the expected percentile, the government’s target of placing at least 70% of trained and certified youth did not occur. Read more.

Skilling according to new-age jobs

Skill vouchers and individual training accounts will be the next process of marketing skilling. After the COVID-19 second wave, rampant job loss over the past 16 months took place. Most of the unemployment is centered around urban informal workers. There will be new opportunities as the economic recovery progresses but this won’t mean employment for all. The new-age jobs are shaped by increased digitization, demand for resilient supply chains, and portfolio shuffling by companies. To be a successful job seeker, one will have to skill themselves according to new-age jobs. New Skill Council for PwD (SCPwD) to address the needs of the Divyangjan

The government will be implementing a central component for Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY). National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) would be assisting the process. The central component will be across the country including the Parbhani and Osmanabad district of Maharashtra. The participation of Divyangjan (Persons with Disability) will be promoted through incentives monthly conveyance support being directly paid to the candidates while financial support of Rs.5000 for assistive devices, aid, and appliances; and boarding and lodging as per Common Cost Norms being provided to the Training Provider (TP).
