Former minister Pandiarajan vows to create three lakh jobs

K Pandiarajan, the former AIADMK minister and the founder of an HR service firm Ma Foi, promised to create three lac jobs in the coming three years. “Ma Foi’s Career Centres are aimed at solving skill development challenges under the Skill India initiative of the Union government,” he said. He has also taken a sabbatical from AIADMK, putting an end to speculations about him leaving the party, in order to complete this project and will return to active politics after three years. Continuous learning can be the key to fix the skills gap

According to the Future of Job 2020 report by the World Economic Forum, about 85 million jobs will likely be displaced by the year 2025 because of changing skills. At the same time, about 97 million jobs that require a different skill set will also be created. This would mean that 50% of existing employees may have to go through reskilling. The skill gap in a young country like India could pose a major problem to the already existing unemployment issue. A prediction by the International Labour Organisation stated that India could face almost 29 million skill deficit by the year 2030. It is a must for organisations and individuals to take stock of the existing skill inventory, while implementing training to stay relevant and to be ahead of the curve. Read more.

Bridging skill gap to empower unemployed youth

Despite having the majority of the country in the age group of 10 – 24, the rate of unemployment among the youth in the past decade has not crossed 22 per cent. Demand-supply mismatch, recession, and most importantly skill gap could attribute to this. There is also the problem of inaccessibility of education, especially to those in rural areas. In order to bridge the skill gap, students need to be proficient in theoretical as well as practical knowledge. Vocational training programs can play a great role in the decision-making process when it comes to choosing a career path.
